A Disney/Pixar production, Toy Story 2 made history by becoming the first major motion picture to get a simultaneous commercial release in both digital and film formats. In November 1999, it was released digitally in six U.S. cinemas, and in February 2000, there were commercial digital screenings in five European cinemas -- three in the U.K., one in Paris and one in Brussels. The digital screenings utilized Texas Instruments' DLP (Digital Light Processing) A data projection technology from TI that produces clear, readable images on screens in lit rooms. DLP is used in all types of projection devices, from data projectors that weigh only a few pounds to large rear-projection TVs to electronic Cinema Technology.
