IASC appoints Shiratori chairman, Sharpe as deputy.

The board of the International Accounting Standards Committee has appointed Eiichi Shiratori of Japan to the post of chairman for a term of two and one-half years, succeeding Arthur Wyatt of the United States. Michael Sharpe of Australia was appointed deputy chairman and will succeed Shiratori in July 1995.

Shiratori graduated from Chuo University in 1958 and attended graduate school at Northwestern University while working at Arthur Andersen & Co.'s Chicago office. He helped open that firm's Tokyo office in 1962, eventually rising to managing partner of Japanese operations. He is currently chief executive officer of IONA International in Tokyo.

Sharpe is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Australian Society of CPAs. He is a partner of Coopers & Lybrand, Sydney, and has served as the firm's senior technical audit partner both internationally and in Australia.
