IABC Research Foundation chair Gloria Walker, ABC, seeks to set new strategic direction. What do you want to accomplish during your year as chairman of the IABC IABC International Association of Business Communicators IABC Indo-Americans for Better Community Research Foundation? I'd I'd 1. Contraction of I had. 2. Contraction of I would. I'd I had or I would I'd have ~would like to see the Foundation's good research become better known throughout IABC and within the profession. Based on recent member research, the Foundation appears to be IABC's best-kept secret. I hope that we can change that. My three primary objectives for the Foundation are to * set a new strategic direction * raise our profile and serve as a bridge between the professional and academic communities * serve as an incubator incubator, apparatus for the maintenance of controlled conditions in which eggs can be hatched artificially. Incubator houses with double walls of mud, a fireroom, and several compartments each holding about 6,000 hens' eggs were developed in ancient times; the of ideas for communication research and dialogue. The world of professionals and academics in organizational communication Organizational communication, broadly speaking, is: people working together to achieve individual or collective goals. [1] Discipline History The modern field traces its lineage through business information, business communication, and early mass communication is very diverse, What direction can the Foundation set to best address this audience? We've we've Contraction of we have. we've have already established some links with academics through our commissioned research and annual Think Tank. The Foundation can be an effective bridge between academics and our members by providing knowledge about the latest research and its relevance to practitioners, and by informing academics about issues that would benefit from further research. How did your past work heading up Foundation committees prepare you for the responsibilities of Foundation chair? It enabled me to realize that our strength is in the involvement and commitment of members who are committed to research and who understand its value to our profession. What is the biggest strength you bring to the IABC board? That would be my willingness to listen to all interested parties in charting a new course for the Foundation. Many people have invested a great deal in bringing the Foundation through its first 20 years. We need to acknowledge this contribution while recognising that we must regularly take stock of the needs of our profession and realign re·a·lign tr.v. re·a·ligned, re·a·lign·ing, re·a·ligns 1. To put back into proper order or alignment. 2. To make new groupings of or working arrangements between. our strategic direction to ensure that we continue to make an important contribution to IABC and to the profession for another 20 years. When you describe the Foundation to IABC members, what do you say to convey the value that it offers? I explain to members and others in the profession that the Foundation has a body of work that is both robust and useful. All Foundation reports contain a diagnostic or training tool that translates theoretical issues into practical activities. This makes them especially useful for practitioners. What is your vision for the future of the IABC Research Foundation? I see a well-funded organization that serves as an incubator of ideas for our profession. We have active participation from members around the globe who are involved in identifying issues affecting business communication. We investigate those issues through a number of activities and inform the profession of our findings through many channels. We are a source of knowledge and serve to improve the understanding and perception of our profession.
