IABC Dallas Opens 2009 Luncheon Schedule with Self-Branding Talk and Volunteer-of-the-Month Award.

DALLAS -- The Dallas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) began its 2009 slate of monthly luncheon meetings with a standing-room only, interactive and entertaining presentation from Carl Youngberg, local author, coach and director of Concepts3Inc.

Youngberg spoke at IABC Dallas' January 13 luncheon before more than 100 Dallas-area business communicators concerned with finding or keeping jobs in a troubled economy. Youngberg noted most successful people share five characteristics. They:

* Understand themselves and how their behavior affects others;

* Understand their reactions to other people;

* Know how to maximize what they do well;

* Have a positive attitude about themselves; and

* Know how to adapt their behavior for a desired outcome.

The IABC Dallas' January volunteer-of-the-month award was presented to Sherrel Barry, of Public Employee Benefits Cooperative, for her help with the chapter's monthly newsletter. Each month, an outstanding volunteer (member or non-member) is recognized for their help in areas including programs, communications, membership, marketing and more.

Dallas IABC's next luncheon meeting - Feb. 10 at 11:30 a.m. in Popolo's Cafe (707 Preston Royal Shopping Center) - features Mitch McCasland, director of insight and strategy for Moroch Partners. His topic, "A Digital-Mobile Guide to Connecting with Women," focuses on women's use and view of technology, including new digital vehicles, and offers suggestions on how to connect with women and influence their buying choices.

A podcast with a preview of McCasland's talk is available at http://dallasiabc.com/uploadfiles/Mitch_McCasland.mp3.
