 PITTSBURGH, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pittsburgh chapter of the


International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) will present a professional development workshop entitled "Working with the Media" on June 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Vista Hotel, it was announced today.
 The workshop is designed for anyone who talks to the media on a regular basis, including communications professionals, business owners and executives. It is sponsored in part by EPD Design Group, PR Newswire and Beacon Printing.
 This workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the media relations function -- from developing goals and objectives, to handling face-to-face interviews, to evaluating the effectiveness of media relations efforts. The one-day program is broken into two sections: managing the media and media training. The sessions will include tips, hints and checklists to help with media effectiveness.
 The cost for the one-day workshop is $175 for IABC members, $225 for non-members and $100 for students. Fees include workshop materials, continental breakfast, morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch. Registration and payment deadline is June 1.
 Ed Shiller will lead the workshop. A member of IABC, Shiller is a principal in The Public Relations Training Institute and Shiller & Associates in Toronto. He has worked as a journalist, a senior corporate public relations executive, a public relations consultant, a media trainer and a public speaker. During his 15-year journalism career, he has held senior editorial positions with The New York Times, Reuters News Agency, Radio Denmark and the Toronto Star.
