I-95 CORRIDOR COALITION TO RECEIVE $3 MILLION FOR IVHS PROJECTS

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has announced that it will allocate an additional $3,050,000 in funds to the "I-95 Corridor Coalition," a group of state departments of transportation and toll authorities along the northeast section of Interstate 95.
The funds will be used for Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS) program and project initiatives that will be carried out by states in the coalition. The states selected to conduct the projects are Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. They plan these initiatives:
-- Corridor Surveillance Requirements (Virginia) -- Will define
surveillance requirements for the various user services/traffic
management strategies being developed by individual agencies.
-- Commercial Vehicle Program (Pennsylvania) -- Will focus on the
travel information needs of truck drivers (congestion, incidents,
weather, optimal routing) and builds upon existing institutional
studies to develop an implementation program for commercial
 vehicle operators along the Corridor.
-- User Needs and Marketability (Pennsylvania) -- To identify the
needs of the I-95 Corridor passengers and freight users/customers
to better plan and prioritize Corridor programs and determine if
a commercial market exists for this information.
-- Traveler Information System (Pennsylvania) -- Designed to
initiate coalition efforts to make multimodal travel data easily
available to users, including exploration of private
 sector/partnership opportunities.
-- Intermodal Outreach and Information Exchange (New York) -- Will
focus on improving intermodal coordination and efficiency as well
as outreach programs by the coalition to involve the full array
of transportation providers and users within the corridor.
