I'original.
The current productions of Le Corsaire (American Ballet Theatre and the Kirov Kirov (kē`rəf), formerly Vyatka (vyät`kə), city (1989 pop. 440,000), capital of Kirov region, central European Russia, on the Vyatka River.) have retained few elements of Petipa's version. So Ivan Liska, artistic director of The Bavarian State Ballet in Munich, has decided to reconstruct the original. Liska's goal is not to make a museum piece, but to combine historical accuracy with entertainment. He will keep the famous Le Corsaire pas de deux (which was actually not part of the original). Dance historian Doug Fullington, one of a handful of people who can read Petipa's Stepanov notation, will be on hand to guide the company through their reconstructive journey. Le Corsaire, which premiered Jan. 26th with Lucia Lacarra as Medara, will run through March. See www.bayerisches.staatsballelt.de
