Hyundai Merchant Marine Selects AT&T for 57-Site Global IP VPN and VoIP Solution; Marine Transportation Company Becomes AT&T's First Korea-Based IP VPN Customer.

SEOUL, South Korea -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced that Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has become its first Korean-led customer to deploy AT&T's flagship Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) solution. HMM is one of the world's largest multimodal marine transportation companies.

Under the four-year agreement, which was achieved in cooperation with Hyundai UNI, AT&T will connect 57 HMM sites across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. Previously, HMM worked with multiple service providers across different regions; now the company will now enjoy one central point of contact with AT&T's advanced, global network.

The AT&T solution also offers Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. HMM expects to make significant cost savings by leveraging VoIP for the company's international voice communications services.

HMM commands more than 119 ships, container carriers, liquid natural gas carriers, oil tankers and bulk carriers, among others. Before deploying AT&T's IP VPN solution, HMM used International Private Lines (IPL) and Frame Relay services from a variety of service providers. The AT&T solution not only provides the flexibility of any-to-any connectivity with high levels of security and reliability, but it is also more cost-effective than IPL or Frame Relay.
