Hyperic Announces Open Source Model For Hyperic HQ IT Management Platform; Full-Featured Open Source Version Available at No Cost; Hyperic Enterprise Subscription to Offer Support, Indemnification and Enterprise Features.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Hyperic, a pioneer in next-generation IT management platforms, announced today that it is adopting an open source business model for Hyperic HQ, its flagship product. The change makes Hyperic HQ the first and only market-tested, enterprise-class IT management platform in the open source space, giving companies, ISVs and OEMs a unified, no-cost solution for managing all their IT assets, with full access to underlying source code.

In just over two years of existence, Hyperic HQ has been downloaded by thousands of users and adopted by over 100 world-class companies, including several Fortune 100 corporations. Its cross-platform, cross-technology capabilities make it an ideal choice for discovering, monitoring, analyzing and controlling enterprise IT assets from the network and operating system layers all the way up to the application and service tier.

With the move to open source, Hyperic is encouraging an open ecosystem around Hyperic HQ. Users will now be able to benefit from community developed plug-ins, and easily adapt and enhance Hyperic HQ to their specific needs by accessing the product's source code. Hyperic is supporting this activity by offering a free, downloadable open source development kit suitable for developing plug-ins that support specific software and hardware. Also today, Hyperic is unveiling the Hyperic HQ Enterprise Subscription, providing enterprises the safety they need for demanding deployment environments. Hyperic HQ Enterprise Subscription extends the value of Hyperic HQ with 24X7 support, indemnification, and features such as remote resource control, role-based security, log/security event tracking, policy based management, and problem identification.

Users will have immediate access to production release binaries of Hyperic HQ. Effective today, the Hyperic HQ open source platform is available in binary form at no cost. In early July, Hyperic will make the complete source code for the platform freely available for download from its Web site under the GNU General Public License (GPL). The GPL has enabled the development of strong communities around Linux, MySQL and many other open source technologies.
