Hydraulic press features ultra low deflection under load.

The Ultrix hydraulic press hydraulic press

Machine consisting of a cylinder fitted with a piston (see piston and cylinder) that uses liquid under pressure to exert a compressive force upon a stationary anvil or baseplate. The liquid is forced into the cylinder by a pump.

The Ultrix maintains a [+ or -] .001" total variation in deflection and machining error under 2,000 tons load over a 53" x 53" pressing surface. Press platen A long, thin cylinder in a typewriter or printer that guides the paper through it and serves as a backstop for the printing mechanism to bang into. It is typically made of a hard rubber or rubber-like material. See carriage and typewriter.  cover plates are Rockwell 45 hardness. Measurements are made simultaneously at 81 locations over the pressing area.

Combined load variation and machining error is said to be equivalent to .002" along a seven foot platen diagonal. This is about one third of the value normally found in precision presses where .001" per linear foot is standard, according to the literature.

Presses are available with precision intermediate platens to produce double daylight models, advanced electro-optical instrumentation to measure corner positions of all platens, and control from data highway recipe product pressing requirements.

Industrial applications include transfer molding Transfer molding, like compression molding, is a process where the amount of molding material (usually a thermoset plastic) is measured and inserted before the moulding takes place. The molding material is preheated and loaded into a chamber known as the pot. , robber and plastics, and composite materials. Designs can be customized.
