Hybrid extrusion head. (Equipment).

An extrusion head has been developed for the manufacture of hybrid profiles. The decisive advantage in the use of the company's hybrid head is that the two original materials, robber and TPE, that later make up the hybrid profile can be thermally separated during extrusion, according to the company. Thermal problems arising in the co-extrusion of the two materials due to the different processing temperatures (for TPE 200-220 [degrees] C, for robber 110-120 [degrees] C) can thus be eliminated, according to the manufacturer. In the hybrid head, the two material streams are only brought together shortly before the final exit of the profile from the extrusion tool, before passing through the vulcanization stage, where two-component profile is cured at 170-180 [degrees] C. The head is designed to accommodate the inclusion of a steel support section or other reinforcement. Hybrid profiles consist of vulcanized rubber and either foamed or solid TPE. In this way, the physical properties of the rubber component, like low compression set and high elasticity, are combined with the advantages of TPE, such as grip, colorability and reduced weight, according to the manufacturer.
