HyWire Ltd. today introduced two new options for communication system design for low-end and mid-range routers and switchers. The company's HySem(TM) product is a search engine manager that provides the lowest cost building block for implementing forwarding information base A Forwarding Information Base (FIB), also known as a forwarding table, is most commonly used in network bridging, routing, and similar functions to find the proper interface to which the input interface should send a packet to be transmitted by the router.  and classification information base functions in routing and switching. The HyCount(TM) product is a high performance, low cost DRAM-based co-processor for massive statistics accumulation and key event monitoring In computer science, event monitoring is the process of collecting, analyzing, and signalling event occurrences to subscribers such as operating system processes, active database rules as well as human operators.  of packets crossing routers, switches or network appliances (1) A specialized device for use on a network. In addition, HyWire is introducing HyFlex(TM), a general-purpose module based on the Spartan(TM) - III 2000 FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  from Xilinx. When loaded with either the HySem or HyCount soft-macro, and mounted on a printed circuit board, HyFlex executes the HySem or HyCount functions.

HySem DRAM-based Search Engine Manager

HySem provides forwarding and classification solutions that meet the massive complexity and growing performance required of today's IP networking infrastructure. It surpasses the current state-of-the art TCAMs in look-up speed, chip count, power consumption, density, scalability, flexibility, integration and cost.

currently capable of higher speeds that can't be utilized due

to today's memory speed limitations.

HyCount High-Performance Co-Processor

HyCount accumulates statistics and monitors key events on packets moving across routers, switches and network appliances. It's valuable for database accounting and billing, flow control, detection of traffic violation and detection and prevention of harmful traffic.

denial-of-service attacks and intrusion attempts

Both the HySem and HyCount provide the customer with flexible design options. As soft macros, they can be integrated into a system-on-chip (SoC), or an FPGA-based module, like HyFlex.

HyFlex FPGA-Based Module

The HyFlex module, packaged as a single device with a BGA-compatible footprint (FG900), can be programmed to emulate the HyCount and HySem devices. Its small size, 65mm x 65mm, makes it easy to mount on a printed circuit board. The module consists of a Xilinx Spartan III-2000 FPGA, three Micron 288Mb RLDRAM(TM)- II devices and 8Mb of flash memory. The HySem, HyCount or other soft macros can be loaded into the on-board flash memory to define HyFlex functionality. This allows the user the flexibility to define, test or update the soft macros.

Price and Availability

HyFlex will be available as a stand-alone module in Q2 2004 for $300 per unit in quantities of 10,000. The HySem and HyCount soft macros will be available in Q3 for implementation in the HyFlex module. Both can be evaluated now by customers. The HySem and HyCount soft macros for system-on-chip designs, along with standard products based on gate arrays, are expected to be available Q4.

HyWire's pricing for IP cores is based on a license and royalty model. Standard components are expected to be $200 per unit in quantities of 10,000.
