Hurst Gallery.HURST GALLERY Owner: Susan Hurst Address: 5811 Kavanaugh Blvd., Suite B, Little Rock 72207 Phone: (501) 614-9250 Hours: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday Startup: Nov. 1 A new art gallery in The Heights features local artists who specialize in all types of art forms including watercolors, sculpture and pastel and oil portraits. Owner Susan Hurst, who has been painting for 30 years and specializes in pastel and oil portraits, said she decided to open Hurst Gallery to showcase her work and the works of other artists. She is currently exhibiting the work of five other artists. "Local Colour moved next door for larger space, and I decided to gather up my favorite artists and put them in my gallery," she said. Gallery visitors can expect to see works by Doug Gorrell. Gorrell, who primarily does oil paintings in impressionistic style, previously owned Brushstrokes, a gallery in the downtown area. Gorrell can be found at his easel on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and Hurst is in the gallery Wednesday through Friday. The gallery's other artists work on their pieces in private studios. These artists include Alice McCallum, Rita Walker Miller, Gloria Larson and Amy Hill Imler. Hurst said that the artists all have their own specialties. For example, sculpture artist Gloria Larson primarily does whimsical human form, while Amy Hill Imler exhibits abstract acrylics on paper and canvas. Visitors are encouraged to purchase a piece of art, watch the artists at work or just browse. Hurst said she hopes her gallery will build public awareness and introduce art to the community. "We're excited to be in The Heights," she said. "We love the neighborhood feel." Hurst Gallery, located between Browning's Mexican Food and Satellite Cafe' on Kavanaugh Boulevard, will hold its grand opening Thursday from 6-8 p.m. |
