First Place

Congratulations to Bryan, age 7, for his winning entry, "Spike the Stegosaurus and Terri the Pterodactyl." Bryan used pencil, colored pencils, and yellow marker to create his masterpiece.

"I would like to have a pet Pachycephalosaurus in the backyard," says Bryan. "I told my mom, 'Don't worry, Mom, it won't head-butt the house clown!"

Besides drawing and dreaming about dinosaurs, Bryan enjoys playing baseball, building LEGO skyscrapers, baking with his dad, writing silly stories, and camping in the living room. He also enjoys traveling with his family.

"Bryan has a very long list of landmarks that he wants to see," says his mom, Kathleen. "Last year, we checked off number two on the list--the Empire State Building. Number one and number three are St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow and the Taj Mahal."

Second Place

Sean, age 6, won second place for his wonderful crayon and pencil entry, "Sliding Bird and the Ant House." Sean was inspired to create the image after riding through his neighborhood.

"Once when I rode my bike with my sister, I saw a tree near my friend's house," says Sean. "On the tree, there was a bird's nest. I see a lot of ant houses in soil, too."

Sean says he has always liked animals. "My most favorite is the lion because it is the king of animals," he says.

When Sean grows up he hopes to be king, too--of the police force. "Of course, I want to be a policeman because they catch bad people," says Sean. "They can also park and drive anywhere they want. Once I saw them put the light on the top of the police car and drive across the lawn."

Third Place

Vivek, age 7, won third place for his fabulous entry "Free Birds." Vivek used watercolors for his creation. "I didn't really like to paint with watercolors until my mom showed me how fun it was and how bright the colors were," he says.

"I always have liked birds," says Vivek, "so when I was going to draw for the U.S Kids magazine, why not draw my favorite thing!"

Talent seems to run in Vivek's family. "My dad has leadership talent," says Vivek. "My mom has singing talent. My brother, Vikram, has mridangam (Indian two-sided drum) talent, and I have painting talent."
