Hult accepts Willamette Rep as resident stage troupe.

The Willamette Repertory Theatre has become the ninth resident company at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts The Hult Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts facility in Eugene, Oregon, opened in 1982.

Residency status entitles performing arts companies to reduced rates and fees at the Hult Center, as well as scheduling priority.

Company founder Kirk Boyd said achieving residency status is "quite an achievement, since we started this theater from thin, thin air."

For its fourth season in the Hult Center's Soreng Theatre, Willamette Rep will do three productions: "To Kill a Mockingbird mockingbird: see mimic thrush.

UNIVERSITY OF OREGON The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  MUSIC students have won a number of recent awards. Jasmine Hedrick, a doctoral student in flute performance, won the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle 2001 tour competition. She won first prize: $2,000 and a weeklong tour of concerts and school presentations in Central Washington. Hedrick, a student of Richard Trombley, also placed second in the Mid-South Flute Festival Young Artist Competition, March 8-9, in Clarkville, Tenn. She is also a 2002 winner of the National Flute Association The National Flute Association, a not for profit institution, is the largest flute organization in the world. It was founded to encourage a higher standard of artistic excellence for the flute, its performers, and its literature.  Master Class Performers Competition and will perform Aug. 15-18 at the national convention in Washington, D.C. In addition, two UO music majors received Downbeat Awards in March in an annual national jazz competition sponsored by Downbeat magazine. Greg Goebel won for best original composition, "Starcrossed," and Devin Sanders won for his arrangement of Leonard Bernstein's "Some Other Time." Both are undergraduates. And Hung-Yun Chu, a doctoral student in piano performance studying with Dean Kramer, was chosen as a semifinalist in the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition and Festival, held in March in Pasadena, Calif.

THE NEW WILLAMETTE Art Theatre Summer Conservatory for Youth will offer a summer theater camp for participants ages 8-19. The camp, to be held at the University of Oregon in mid-August, will be conducted by seven UO theater students in conjunction with the UO Cultural Forum and the Renegade Theatre Project of Eugene. In addition to acting classes (improvisation, auditioning, voice and dialect, theater games, warm-up exercises and musical theater), the camp also will offer sessions on design (set, lights, sound and costume), dance and movement, and playwriting play·writ·ing also play·wright·ing

The writing of plays.
. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19-23 in Villard Hall. The cost is $150 if parents register by July 15; between July 15 and Aug. 12, the cost will be $175. "I wanted a camp like this when I was growing up," project spokesman Eric-Michael MacCionnaith says. "It is our intent to establish an environment of ensemble where our students can grow and learn the craft." Information: 741-6894.
