Hughes named Guinness' CEO

Michael Hughes, president, Guinness Import Co., will now also assume the title of chief executive officer of the company, according to Brian Baldock, chairman and managing director, Guinness Brewing Worldwide. Hughes was named president of Guinness Import in 1988 after serving as acting president during the latter half of 1987.

"This additional responsibility reflects Hughes' success in managing the growth and change resulting from the company's acquisition of All Brand Importers in February," Baldock said.

Hughes served as worldwide marketing director for Guinness Brewing Worldwide before joining Guinness Import in the U.S. Previously, he served as marketing director for the Northern European division of Coca-Cola Export Corp. Hughes was also general manager for the company's business in Northern Europe.

Hughes began working for Coca-Cola in 1980, and was responsible for the launch of Diet Coke in Great Britain in 1983.
