Hughes Defense Communications Wins EPLRS Multi-year Contract.


FORT WAYNE, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1997--Hughes Defense Communications Monday announced that it has received a $79.2 million firm fixed price multi-year production contract to provide 2,392 Enhanced Position Location Reporting System The Enhanced Position Location Reporting System (EPLRS) is a secure, jam resistant, computer controlled communications network that distributes near real-time tactical information, generally integrated into radio sets, and coordinated by a Network Control Station.  (EPLRS EPLRS Enhanced Position Location and Reporting System (also seen as EPLARS) ) Receiver/Transmitters (RTs).

The multi-year contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, Ft. Monmouth, N.J. The initial award of $62.4 million for FY'97 includes the delivery of 1,100 EPLRS Army Data Distribution System Interface (ADDSI ADDSI Army Data Distribution System Interface ) RTs, 335 EPLRS 1553 RTs, plus spares.

The FY'98 portion will include 957 EPLRS ADDSI RTs and 1,016 retrofit kits. The length of the program will be 30 months. The Army may also exercise options for additional RTs in FY'98 and FY'99.

This announcement follows an earlier Value Engineering Change Proposal award to an existing contract. The $10 million modification included repackaging efforts to further reduce costs and enhance the system performance of EPLRS RTs.
