Suffers Drop In Net Income

ROGERS -- Hudson Foods Inc., one of the nation's largest poultry producers and food processors, announced that net income for the third quarter that ended June 29 was $3.1 million, 21 cents in primary earnings per share.

That was down from last year's third-quarter net income of $4.4 million, 30 cents in primary earnings per share (29 cents fully diluted).

Sales for the quarter rose to $200.1 million from $184.1 million a year ago, an increase of 8.7 percent.

Nine-month profits were $4.5 million, 31 cents in primary earnings per share, down from profits a year earlier of $6.7 million, 47 cents a share.

Sales climbed 17.2 percent to $562 million from 1990's nine-month total of $479.5 million.

Hudson Foods sells a variety of chicken and turkey products under the "Hudson," "Flavor Fresh" and "Hudson Deli-Meister" brand names.

The company also sells poultry, beef and pork products under the "Ohse," "Schweigert," "Pierre" and "Roegelein" brand names.
