In Windows, a boot volume is the hard disk volume that stores all the system and supporting files of Windows operating system. By default, all the system files of Windows are stored in WINDOWS folder, while its supporting files are stored in WINDOWS/System32 folder. If you are using a multiboot system, there is one particular boot volume for each of the operating systems. For Windows to use the file system, the boot volume is required to be mount. At times, the mount process might fail due to issues like file system corruption and your data might become completely inaccessible. In such situations, this is required that you use your backup in order to restore data thus lost. If no good backup is available, data recovery software can be used to serve the purpose of extracting the data.

For an instance, consider that you try to boot your Windows XP based system and the below message is triggered:

"Unmountable Boot Volume"

As a result of this error message, you cannot boot Windows XP and thus, access the stored data.

File system is corrupted and unusable. System cannot mount a damaged file system

Solution

You need to resolve th above behavior using these methods:

Replace the 40-wire connector cable with the required 80-wire cable
Change the BIOS settings to load the ''fail-safe'' default settings. You can reactivate the required options thereafter

Try repairing the damaged file system by running chkdsk /r through command prompt of Windows Recovery Console. If this doesn''t help, you should use powerful data recovery application to recover the lost data, while no valid backup is available. Though you need to reformat the hard drive for resolving file system corruption issues, but use of data recovery software is recommended to use prior to the process. these are powerful partition recovery utilities that you can use even after disk reformatting.
