Window tinting is not just meant for teenagers, drug dealers and under cover cops, but now-a-days, more and more people are tinting their vehicles and home windows. Most mothers want their windows and vehicles tinted as it provides 99% protection from the harmful ultra violet rays for their children. Most tinting films reduce heat of the sun by 40-60%, thus improving the car?s AC system and gas mileage.

It can be a fun to apply tinting film to your household window or your car, but to remove window tinting can be quite tricky and time-consuming. When the tinting film starts to bubble or looking shabby, or you have just tired of the same old look, you need to remove the tinting. First of all, you have to gather all the apparatus that will be needed during the procedure.

Some kind of knife like a utility knife with wide blade will be required to strip the tinting film. You must make sure that you have many gallon trash bags handy with you. The bigger the trash bag, the simpler it will be to cut it in order to fit the size of the window. Some other things that will be required to remove window tinting are paper towels, fine steel wool pads, a drop cloth, glass cleaner and ammonia.

If you do not want to use ammonia because of its smell and the hazards related to its inhalation, you can also use a common cleansing product which contains ammonia. You must read the label to find out that the product really contains ammonia as an ingredient.

To begin with, the tinting film has to be softened so that it can be easily removed. For this purpose, you have to spray the outer part of the window with water. Cover the window with a trash bag, and with the help of a knife or scissors, cut the trash bag in order to fit it to the window. On the inside of the window, you need to remove all the items or lay a drop cloth so that the area can be protected from any possible damage.

On the entire inside of the window, spray ammonia while wearing goggles and a mask, so that the ammonia fumes do not harm you. Once again, fit a trash bag on the inside of the window. These trash bags keep the solution from being evaporated while they make the tinting film soft. If possible, expose the window to the fullest of sun rays, or you can also use a defroster. Wait for at least 10 minutes before starting to strip the tinting film.

You can also use soapy water instead of ammonia to make the tinting film softer. Once the film has been softened enough, you can start peeling the film slowly with your knife, starting from the corner of the film. Once the tinting film has been taken out, you should clean the window glass with a steel wool; this will remove the residual pieces. After that, the adhesive of the film needs to be scrubbed off, for which you can use paper towel and glass cleaner.
