How to Plan A Debt-Free Wedding

One of the leading causes of divorce in America is debt. Many divorced couples have reported that the majority of their arguments were about financial related issues. Debt does not have to begin in the marriage. For some, debt is acquired during the engagement. In his excitement, the groom-to-be rushes off to the nearest bridal jewelry store and splurges on a beautiful 2-carat diamond ring. As he prepares to pop the question, he is reminded of the debt he created.

Many couples spend astronomical amounts of money while striving to achieve their "dream wedding". While having the wedding of a lifetime is every couples right, it is important to keep your spending into perspective. In her excitement, the bride-to-be rushes off to find the perfect wedding gown, bridal jewelry, and other accessories. It does not take her long to find her dream bridal ensemble; however, finding the right price poses another challenge.

Being conscious of what you can and cannot afford is the key to staying out of debt.
Many couples make the mistake of setting an unrealistic budget. There is no real magic number when it comes to budgeting a wedding. However, the average cost of a wedding is approximately $27,000. It is up to each individual couple to examine their own financial situation and plan accordingly. Keep in mind that just because you are wearing a diamond ring on your finger, does not mean that your entire bridal jewelry set has to be made of diamonds. Although diamonds are a desirable choice, unless you are loaded, it is not always the most cost efficient approach. Diamonds can always be substituted by Swarovski crystals.

Take time to plan your wedding. Couples who allow 6 months or more to plan their wedding are more likely to find deals. On the other hand, those that rush into getting married do not have time to bargain shop. It is best to set aside a shopping day to get ideas about your wedding gown, bridal jewelry, accessories, and other wedding merchandise. After you have in mind what you are looking for, you can do a little comparison-shopping. Studies have shown that consumers who compare prices are more likely to find the best bargains.

Shopping online is a cost-efficient way for consumers to buy what they need. Many online dealers offer wedding merchandise at a fraction of the cost. You will find online stores that sell everything from wedding invitations to bridal jewelry and everything in between. Some online stores offer rush delivery so that your merchandise will arrive in time for the wedding. When couples set a budget, take time to plan, and shop for bargains, they reduce the risk of accumulating wedding related debt.
