How to Get Your Teaching Ideas Published: A Writer's Guide to Educational Publishing.

Stangl has written 22 books and more than 200 magazine articles related to education and has taught classes from kindergarten through college. In this book, she shares her knowledge to educate and inspire other teachers and does so using a lively, practical writing style. Any teacher or writer, beginner or professional, who wants to get published in the education field will benefit from this book.

The book covers all the basic steps necessary to get a book published, and features chapters on selling articles to education, parenting and religious publications. It also contains information about writing curriculum supplements such as textbooks, workbooks, teaching manuals, resource books and craft and activity books. Media and market lists, names of education publishers and many other helpful resources appear in the appendix.

The beginner, however, probably will find the last chapter to be the most valuable. In "A Time To Write: The Success Connection," Stangl discusses managing time, setting goals, writer's block and striving for success. She reminds the reader that although writing is hard work, seeing one's ideas in print can be very satisfying.

Stangl makes a strong case for practitioners sharing their ideas through writing. Virginia's new recertification system, for example, allows teachers to renew their certificates on a regular basis by performing a variety of professional activities, including writing journal articles. Other states may also adopt this approach.

Elementary and middle school teachers who want to write for education publications will find this book to be a valuable resource. Their writings will more likely meet the needs of editors and publishers. For these reasons, the reviewer highly recommends this publication for individual and school use.
