Basically, you should feel comfortable in your bra. It shouldn''t be too tight or leave red marks behind. This can be more than just a mild discomfort: bras that are too tight or loose can lead to serious injuries to your neck and back. They can also cause numbness in your hands and fingers. It is important that in order to get the most out of your bra you are fully aware of your correct bra size. This will not only improve posture and comfort, it will also ensure that your clothes are a much better fit. There''s nothing quite as embarrassing as going out to a function with your breasts bulging from the sides of your under-sized bra - except, perhaps, going to a function and having your breasts fall out of an oversize bra!

Firstly you should find a good material tape measure and remove all clothing. The first measurement you need to establish is your band size - which is your ribcage measurement and you should place the tape measure just below your bust and read the number of inches to the nearest inch. So if it measures just over 30 call it 30 but if its closer to 31 then call it 31 inches.

Remember that a majority of push up bras are manufactured with wider set straps due to the increased need of support. The most vital component of a push up bra is that it needs to fit perfectly. The adage, ''it fits like a glove'' needs to apply here. If the bra does not feel proportional and comfortable for your body then continue shopping.

There are also backless dresses which usually have a halter neck strap or even some kind of shoulder straps that just leave your back nude. For these you can try to find a backless bra that will provide you with the support needed but will lack the band going around your back. It might be hard to get a model that will perfectly fit your dress since the straps are usually very thin in dresses and make it hard to hide the bra straps.

All other prostheses should be worn with a mastectomy bra, which is a special type of bra designed with pockets to hold the prosthesis in place. Regular fashion bras don''t have this pocket, although you can buy separate bra pockets that can be sewn into regular fashion bras to convert them to mastectomy bras.
