House passes COLA bill.


The House of Representatives, by a vote of 408-0, has passed an annual cost-of-living adjustment cost-of-living adjustment

An adjustment made in wages that corresponds with a change in the cost of living.

The president's budget estimated a 2.6 percent COLA, but the actual amount will depend on the Consumer Price Index increase for the year.

Included in the bill (H.R. 4843) is an amendment by Rep. Shelley Berkley Rochelle "Shelley" Berkley (born Rochelle Levine January 20, 1951) is an American politician, and has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the First Congressional District of Nevada, which includes most of the city  (D-Nev.) to extend the increase for dependency and indemnity Recompense for loss, damage, or injuries; restitution or reimbursement.

An indemnity contract arises when one individual takes on the obligation to pay for any loss or damage that has been or might be incurred by another individual.
 compensation to $250-per-month benefit to help families dealing with a recent death. However, the amendment faces an uncertain future in conference with the Senate. The House Veterans' Affairs Committee adopted the amendment last year as well, but conferees dropped it because of its cost.

The Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee also approved a cost-of-living measure (S. 2562) on June 22 by voice vote.
