House of Brussels Chocolates Sells New Proprietary Sugar-Free Products to Hickory Farms.

House of Brussels Chocolates ("HBSL" or "Brussels") (OTCBB:HBSL) is pleased to announce that it has confirmed an order for its newly launched Maltitol-based low carbohydrate/"sugar-free" chocolates to Canadian Hickory Farms for their upcoming Christmas campaign.

18 months in development, HBSL's proprietary reduced carbohydrate chocolate line is made using Maltitol, which is a reduced calorie bulk sweetener with sugar-like structure, taste and sweetness. It is 90% as sweet as sugar and significantly reduced in calories. Sugar (sucrose) contributes four calories per gram while the caloric contribution of Maltitol is only 2.1 calories per gram.

Though Maltitol is mainly used to replace sugars in the manufacture of sugar-free foods, it may also be used to replace fat as it gives a creamy texture to food. As such, it is the perfect sweetener for reduced-calorie chocolate. Given this intrinsic property, the development staff at HBSL was able to nearly replicate Brussels' fabled Chocolatier's Line of gourmet products without using sugar.

Unlike much of the competition, HBSL chocolatiers maintain strict attention to taste while holding onto the exceptional quality that HBSL is known for. To that end, most people can't tell the difference between HBSL's Maltitol chocolates and the regular gourmet chocolates produced by HBSL.

Prior to the development of Maltitol, the production of "sucrose-free" or "no-sugar-added" chocolate proved difficult because the sweeteners failed to have similar physical and chemical properties of sucrose. Maltitol's anhydrous crystalline form, low hygroscopicity, high melting point and stability finally allow world-class chocolatiers to use it to replace sucrose in high quality chocolate.
