House VA Committee's Lane Evans to retire.

House Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Steve Buyer Stephen Earle Buyer (born November 26 1958) has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1993 for Indiana's At-large congressional district.  (R-Ind.) said in a prepared statement that Evans's work in Congress "reflects the principles that have guided him throughout his career. Lane's concern for our military men and women, the environment and those less fortunate speaks to his character and commitment to make life better. But it is his unwavering support for the nation's veterans that best describes his time in Congress."

A statement from Senate Veterans" Affairs Committee Chairman Larry Craig (R-Idaho) said, "As a Vietnam-era member of the U.S. Marine Corps, Congressman Evans has been a vibrant force in Congress for veterans."

Evans made his mark on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee in the 1980's by elevating concern for and promoting action on the issues affecting Vietnam veterans--post-traumatic stress disorder, the effects of Agent Orange and other herbicide herbicide (hr`bəsīd'), chemical compound that kills plants or inhibits their normal growth. A herbicide in a particular formulation and application can be described as selective or nonselective.  exposure and a growing homelessness problem, among others.

He also has helped lead the charge for total elimination of the ban on concurrent receipt of VA disability compensation and full military retired pay.
