After taking nearly two semesters off while it dealt with labor issues, Taco Bell Taco Bell Corp., a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., is a Mexican-style quick service restaurant chain based in Irvine, California, United States. A division of Yum Brands Inc., Taco Bell was ousted from the campus in October after students took up the cause of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is "a community-based worker organization" whose members are "largely Latino, Haitian, and Mayan Indian immigrants working in low-wage jobs throughout the state of Florida. , which represents Florida tomato pickers. The group urged a boycott of Taco Bell to bring attention to its claims that the company prevented workers from organizing and paid sub-poverty wages.

The boycott ended in March alter an accord was reached between Taco Bell and the union to hike tomato pickers' pay. Shortly thereafter, Associated Students UCLA, the nonprofit that runs the campus Student Union, began talks with Taco Bell to re-open the restaurant on campus.

"'We recognize that Florida tomato workers do not enjoy the same rights and conditions as employees in other industries, and there is a need for reform," Emil Brolick, Taco Bell's president, said in a statement.

Before Taco Bell can start serving burritos again, the board of Associated Students has to sign off on a licensing agreement that is still being hashed out.
