Hospital recognized for safety.UMass Memorial Medical Center has been recognized by a state organization for increasing patient safety in its adult intensive care units. The hospital received an honorable mention from the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety and Medical Error Reduction, a group formed in 2002 to coordinate public and private initiatives to promote patient safety. The center is named for Betsy Lehman, a Boston Globe reporter who died in 1994 after a chemotherapy overdose.
