I was so incredibly inspired by everyone featured. I'm an indie filmmaker, and it was a blessing to see the women making it happen behind the camera. I applaud them all for staying committed to presenting positive, powerful, non-stereotypical portrayals of African Americans. I am an American Black Film Festival alumnus ALUMNUS, civil law. I also wrote, produced, and directed a short film series called Mattie, Johnny and Smooth White Stones that was selected for inclusion in the National Park Service Underground Railroad Underground Railroad, in U.S. history, loosely organized system for helping fugitive slaves escape to Canada or to areas of safety in free states. The development and success of the independent films and projects being produced, directed, and moved forward by blacks is a phenomenal trend, and I'm glad BE is bringing national attention to it. I am happy to see people of color getting involved in bringing more of these images to TV, film, and theater, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
