Hong Kong gov't asserts film force.


Fresh off the success of last year's Filmart '97, the Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  government plans to begin taking an active role in its film industry. Along with developing plans for a Film Services Office. the government will auction off a plot of land to companies looking to build a motion picture studio on the site.
