Honeywell Receives Technology Leadership Award for its Pioneering Role in Building Integration Technologies.

PALO ALTO Palo Alto, city, California
Palo Alto (păl`ō ăl`tō), city (1990 pop. 55,900), Santa Clara co., W Calif.; inc. 1894. Although primarily residential, Palo Alto has aerospace, electronics, and advanced research industries.
, Calif. -- Frost & Sullivan today announced that it has selected Honeywell as the recipient of the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership Award.

The Award follows a recent Frost & Sullivan study, Strategic Analysis: Integration of Building Technologies with BAS BAS

Frost & Sullivan presents this Award annually to the company that has demonstrated technology leadership by excelling in all stages of the technology life cycle -- incubation, adaptation, take-up, and maturity -- to ensure a continuous flow of improvements. The Award recognizes the innovation of leading-edge concepts, which help pioneer client applications.

"While lack of expertise in all domains and the shortage of a skilled force restrained other companies, Honeywell realized the inevitability of integration and was the first to group different building management systems on to a single platform in the 1970s," says Frost & Sullivan research analyst Sapan Agarwal.

Since then, the company has been providing clear leadership in the industry and value to its customers. For instance, in the 1990s, Honeywell Building Solutions initiated a different direction with the advent of wireless and Ethernet networking technologies. Honeywell Enterprise Building Integrator (EBI See electron beam imaging. ), the company's building management platform released in 1999, was designed to be implemented over the local area network (LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ), wide area network (WAN) and wireless networks.

Ensuring compliance with all requirements for fire and life safety systems was a key priority in the development of EBI, and Honeywell Building Solutions was quick in assessing the impact of interoperability on the technological direction of the industry.

"Designing EBI as an open system that can integrate equipment from different manufacturers is a strategic step in a fresh technological direction," notes Agarwal. "This has been a strong motivating factor among the end users to embrace the platform, since it allows existing legacy systems to be upgraded in steps and integrated at lower costs."

For Honeywell, "open" means not only supporting the leading building and process automation protocols, including LonMark, BACnet and OPC (1) (OpenGL Performance Characterization) A project group within GPC that manages OpenGL benchmarks. OPC endorses the Viewperf and GLperf benchmarks. Viewperf was created by IBM and OPC provides viewsets for it, which are combinations of tests using specific , but also integrating to business systems like PeopleSoft and SAP.

In 2002, Honeywell Building Solutions integrated digital video as a component of EBI with the Honeywell Digital Video Manager (DVM DVM Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

The ability to anticipate and quickly respond to the needs of the industry has been vital to the company's success as a technology leader. With significant investments in automation research and development, the company ensures ongoing alignment of its business, financial, and technology goals with those of the end users.

In addition to its broad-based technology edge over competitors, Honeywell Building Solutions demonstrates a strong commitment to providing unparalleled customer service to its customers. Regular software upgrades and support, customer training, and ongoing application of latest patches to take care of any security or performance issues with the system are some of the value-added services A value-added service (VAS) is a telecommunications industry term for non-core services or, in short, all services beyond standard voice calls and fax transmissions.  the company offers.

Overall, its solid technology background, strong business savvy and strategic focus make Honeywell Building Solutions an undisputed technology leader in the building integration market and a worthy recipient of the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership Award.
