Honeywell Receives $1.4 million Order for BRITISH PETROLEUM Marine Vapor Recovery Project.

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 1998--Honeywell has received a $1.4 million order for an integrated automation, information, and safety system, as well as a Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions Trainer simulator system for operator training, all for British Petroleum's Marine Vapor Recovery Project (MVRP MVRP Multicast VLAN Registration Protocol ) in the United Kingdom.

This project, at BP's oil tanker loading berths at Hound Point in the Firth of Forth Noun 1. Firth of Forth - a large firth on the east coast of Scotland and the estuary of the Forth River; location of Edinburgh
Scotland - one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; located on the northern part
(near Edinburgh, Scotland), will benefit the environment by recovering vapors displaced from the berths of tankers as they are loaded with crude oil, thus preventing the release of offensive odors and volatile organic compounds.

BP is investing in the MVRP in the interests of the environment and as a good neighbor. There is, at present, no European legislation requiring vapor collection as tankers are filled.

The Honeywell solution will include a PC-based SCAN 3000 system for supervisory control and data acquisition (application) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition - (SCADA) Systems are used in industry to monitor and control plant status and provide logging facilities. SCADA systems are highly configurable, and usually interface to the plant via PLCs.  (SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) A process control application that collects data from sensors and machines on the shop floor or in remote locations and sends them to a central computer for management and control. ), running under Microsoft Windows NT, with dual-redundant Allen-Bradley PLCs for process control and a Honeywell Fail Safe Control (FSC FSC

(R)) safety system for fire and gas protection. This combination is a well-proven solution in the oil and gas industry, with several installations on platforms in the Southern North Sea and at their related onshore terminals.

SCAN 3000 stations will be located in a control room at the Hound Point berths and at the Dalmeny oil tank farm, 4 kilometers away. The system will eventually be networked into BP's corporate management systems at BP's Grangemouth refinery. Personnel there will be able to view process data from Hound Point and Dalmeny on their Honeywell TotalPlant(R) Solution (TPS) system, the Grangemouth site standard for process control and information.

Honeywell's Oil and Gas Engineering Center in Bracknell, UK, is doing project engineering.

Approximately 800,000 barrels per day Barrels per day (abbreviated BPD, bbl/d, bpd, bd or b/d) is a measurement used to describe the amount of crude oil (measured in barrels) produced or consumed by an entity in one day.  of crude oil pass through the Dalmeny oil export terminal and Hound Point berths. The crude is produced by several offshore fields and comes to shore through the Forties Pipeline System The Forties pipeline system is a pre-eminent pipeline network in the North Sea carrying some 40% of the UK's oil to shore. It is fully owned and operated by BP, who retained the asset after selling off the Forties oilfield to Apache Corp. in 2003. .
