Honduras upholds ban on clergy officeholders.
A ban on clergy running for political offices has been upheld by
the Supreme Court of Honduras.
The ban, which dates back to 1830, was overturned by the
country's Supreme Electoral Court in June, prompting 14 evangelical
Christian ministers to run for seats in the nation's Congress.
On July 28, the Supreme Court ruled that the Supreme Electoral
Court had violated two provisions of the nation's Constitution by
overturning the ban, the Associated Press reported. Some of the
ministers said they would protest the ruling before the Inter-American
Commission on Human Rights.
