Homeland Security Secretary Appoints Dan Corsentino of Silver State Helicopters to Homeland Security Advisory Council.

It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States.  -- Jerry Airola, president of Silver State Helicopters, announced today Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has appointed Dan Corsentino to the Homeland Security Advisory Council The Homeland Security Advisory Council is part of the Executive Office of the President. As the executive director of Silver State Helicopters' Specialized Airborne Law Enforcement (S.A.B.L.E.) Program, Corsentino is responsible for creating cost effective alternatives for law enforcement agencies A law enforcement agency (LEA) is a term used to describe any agency which enforces the law. This may be a local or state police, federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).  by providing fully-equipped, staffed helicopters on a contract basis. This group has been a resource for the National Sheriffs' Association The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) is a U.S. non-profit trade association dedicated to raising the level of professionalism among U.S.sheriffs, their deputies and others in the fields of criminal justice and public safety.  as well as being involved in many rescue operations including Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.

Corsentino was elected on November 8, 1990 as Sheriff of Pueblo County and retired in January 2007. He is recognized as the longest serving sheriff in Pueblo, Colo. history.

Corsentino is a graduate of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government The John F. ). Prior to this, Corsentino was elected to the National Sheriffs' Association Board of Directors in June of 2002 and served a three-year-term. In his present role as 3rd Vice President, Corsentino meets regularly with numerous government officials in Washington, D.C. to discuss emerging issues such as homeland defense, national law enforcement funding and the changing role of the FBI. In addition, Corsentino serves on numerous committees with the National Sheriffs' Association such as the Congressional Affairs Committee, Ethics Committee ethics committee A multidisciplinary hospital body composed of a broad spectrum of personnel–eg, physicians, nurses, social workers, priests, and others, which addresses the moral and ethical issues within the hospital. During his career Corsentino has been recognized with a number of awards including the Non-Uniformed Officer of the Year by the Southeastern Colorado Law Enforcement Association. He also received the J.J. Raigoza Community Service Award for distinguished service promoting a healthy lifestyle to the youth of Pueblo, Colorado. In 1999, Corsentino was a recipient of the prestigious Gates Family Foundation Fellowship which recognizes outstanding government officials from around the country. In 2003, 2004 and 2005, Corsentino was nominated by members of his organization including the County Sheriffs of Colorado as well as numerous political leaders including a senator, congressman and a state representative, for the Ferris E. Lucas Award, the most prestigious award offered by the National Sheriffs' Association.
