Home starts up across region: CMHC.


Housing starts in northeastern Ontario Northeastern Ontario is the region within the Canadian province of Ontario which lies north and east of Lakes Superior and Huron.

So far, there have been 259 single-detached starts, up 15 percent from last year, when 224 starts were recorded to the end of June.

"Demand in move-up home-buying ranges continues to spur northeastern Ontario starts," says CMHC market analyst Warren Philp, in a July 11 release. "Baby boomers wanting a certain type of home not available on the resale market is spurring the Greater Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie Sault Sainte Marie — pronounced "Soo Saint Marie" (IPA /su seɪnt məˈɹi/) — is the name of two cities on the Saint Marys River, which forms part of the boundary between the United States and Canada. , North Bay and Timmins markets."

Philp says their 2005 forecast of 440 starts being completed this year is reachable based on steady employment figures, a healthy resale market and continued low interest rates.
