Home Remedies for Treatment of Jaundice, Symptoms


Jaundice is a condition in which yellow discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes occur due to an increase in the bile pigments, namely, bilirubin in the blood. In many cases, yellowness in the white part of the eyes is more obvious than in the skin.

Symptoms

The simple form of jaundice can be cured rapidly by diet therapy and exercise. Recovery will, however, be slow in serious cases which have been caused by obstruction or pressure in the bile ducts. The patient should rest until the acute symptoms of the disease subside.

Take a few fresh papaya leaves and make a paste. Take about 1/2 tsp of this paste and mix with 1 tsp honey and consume it everyday.

The leaves of snake gourd have also been found useful. in jaundice. An infusion of the leaves should be prepared by mixing 15 gm of dry leaves in 250 m!'' of , boiling water. Next, a decoction of coriander seeds can be prepared by boiling one tablespoon of coriander seeds in 500 ml of water till it is reduced by one-third. The infusion should be given in doses of 30 to 60 ml, mixed with the decoction of coriander seeds, thrice daily.

Make a cupful of juice of beetroot and lemon in equal proportions. This juice taken for a few days will definitely cure jaundice

The herb jaundice berry, botanically known as Berberis vultaris is very useful in jaundice. The pulverized bark should be given several times a day in doses of one-fourth of a teaspoon in the treatment of this disease, or the fluid extract should be given in 2-4 ml doses.

You can also give warm water containing turmeric to the patient suffering from jaundice. It is very useful home remedy for jaundice. Take one glass of warm water and mix a pinch of turmeric in it, stir well and drink this safe drink 3-4 times in a day.


The liquid extracted from Bitter Luffa is widely regarded as one of the best home remedies for jaundice. The juice is normally taken on the palm and pulled in through nostrils. This process causes a copious effluence of a yellowish liquid through the nostrils. One has to bear in mind that this is an extremely strong medicine and hence, has to be taken if prescribed by the doctor

A lot of people recommend having sugarcane juice during Jaundice. However, ensure that the juice is extracted under strict hygienic conditions. Alternately, you can wash the per-cut chunks of sugar-cane available in the market in hot water, and let it cool in the fridge. Once it cools down, the patient can chew on them.
