Home Depot scouts new site.Byline: Joe Harwood The Register-Guard Not to be deterred after Springfield gave it the cold shoulder 18 months ago, Home Depot The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services. Headquartered in Vinings, just outside Atlanta in unincorporated Cobb County, Georgia, Home Depot employs more than 355,000 people and operates 2,164 big-box Inc. is setting its sights on an 11.5-acre property in west Eugene. The world's largest home-improvement chain on Friday filed preliminary plans to build a 102,000-square-foot store at the southwest corner of West Seventh Avenue and Seneca Road. The site currently houses the shuttered shut·ter n. 1. One that shuts, as: a. A hinged cover or screen for a window, usually fitted with louvers. b. Movieland cineplex, which would be torn down. As part of the project, Atlanta-based Home Depot also intends to build a 27,400-square-foot garden center, plus a small retail pad slated for later development, according to according to prep. 1. As stated or indicated by; on the authority of: according to historians. 2. In keeping with: according to instructions. 3. the filing. The plans mark Home Depot's third attempt to build another store in the Eugene-Springfield area to complement its 100,000-square-foot Green Acres Green Acre is a conference facility in Eliot, Maine, in the United States. It was founded by Sarah Farmer in 1894. After Sarah Farmer became a Bahá'í in 1900, many Bahá'í speakers were invited, including Mírzá Abu'l-Fadl in 1903, `Abdu'l-Bahá in 1912 and Mírzá Road-Delta Highway outlet. If Home Depot succeeds this time, it would greatly intensify in·ten·si·fy v. in·ten·si·fied, in·ten·si·fy·ing, in·ten·si·fies v.tr. 1. To make intense or more intense: the competition with Eugene-based Jerry's Home Improvement Center, which is the local market leader in home improvement. Jerry's has one store in Eugene and one in Springfield. In 2000, Home Depot filed papers to build a 136,200-square-foot store on 17 acres at West 11th Avenue and Belt Line Road. But the parcel's owner, Eugene developer Phil Marvin, later sold the property to Target Corp., which built a 126,000-square-foot store there. It's unclear why Home Depot never bought the Belt Line property. In 2001, Springfield officials rebuffed a Home Depot attempt to build a store on industrial land near 28th Street and Marcola Road. The Springfield City Council decided the property would be better used for industrial purposes rather than for a big-box retailer, and declined to rezone re·zone tr.v. re·zoned, re·zon·ing, re·zones To change the zoning classification of (a neighborhood or property, for example). re the land. By contrast, Home Depot's latest application doesn't appear to face major planning hurdles. The land is zoned for commercial development. The property is owned by McKenzie Bend LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol. LLC - Logical Link Control , which is controlled by the Springfield-based Boyles family. The family develops hotels and other commercial ventures, and owns hotels and shopping strips in Springfield's Gateway district. Richard Boyles Richard Boyle may be:
"Right now they are looking at the property and trying to understand what they need to do," Boyles said. A Home Depot spokesman declined to comment. Boyles and his father acquired the Movieland site more than a year ago in a land swap with Eugene real estate firm Arlie & Co. In that swap, the Boyles family gave Arlie 36 acres of land in the Gateway area that Arlie later packaged with other land and sold to PeaceHealth for its new RiverBend hospital. The Movieland site is the biggest piece of largely vacant commercial property in west Eugene. A new Home Depot store in west Eugene would compete directly with the Jerry's store at Belt Line and Highway 99. Jerry's is one of the largest independently owned hardware stores in the nation. A Seneca Road Home Depot would also draw business from smaller hardware stores. Two years ago, Jerry's was at the forefront of the fight to prevent Home Depot from winning land-use approval to build the store on Marcola Road in Springfield. Jerry's, owned by the Orem family of Eugene, opened its second home improvement outlet - off Olympic Boulevard Olympic Boulevard may mean:
Jerry's President Dennis Orem could not be reached for comment Friday. As of Dec. 11, Home Depot operated 1,666 stores in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . The Seneca Road store would mark Home Depot's 16th Oregon outlet. |
