Holocomm Systems Inc. Receives Five-Year GSA Contract; Troubles With Cubicle Reconfiguration Becoming a Thing of the Past.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1999--

Holocomm Systems Inc., announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the GSA (1) (Global mobile Suppliers Association, Sawbridgeworth, U.K., www.gsacom.com) A membership organization of suppliers of GSM products and services. Its goal is to promote GSM as the worldwide mobile communications standard. See GSM Association and GSM.  National Furniture Center, putting it on the Federal Supply Schedule through the year 2004.

Under contract No. GS-29F-0031J, Holocomm will be able to immediately provide TopRunner(TM), a cable management solution, to the government's enormous mix of modular office furniture systems requiring reconfiguration. TopRunner, Holocomm's breakthrough new product, integrates panel furniture systems, network connectivity and cabling topology.

, executive vice president of Holocomm Systems Inc. "TopRunner's retrofitting compatibility is the perfect solution for older workstations typically found in government and military open-office environments."

The annual rate at which office furniture is reconfigured or "churned" fluctuates between 20 percent and 200 percent, with an average approaching 50 percent. With more than 50 million modular office cubicles in use nationally, this translates into major downtime and recurring expenses. By using TopRunner, a network can be up and functioning fast, enabling network modernization without impacting productivity. TopRunner completely separates communications cabling from the furniture, dramatically reducing network troubleshooting and costly installation time.

TopRunner simplifies change in government installations, which are among the largest users of fiber optic technology products. TopRunner is compatible with all major furniture brands and all popular cable and connector types including coaxial, twisted pair A thin-diameter wire (22 to 26 gauge) commonly used for telephone and network cabling. The wires are twisted around each other to minimize interference from other twisted pairs in the cable (Alexander Graham Bell invented this and was awarded a patent for it in 1881).  and fiber optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber . It also accepts fiber optic and copper cabling in any combination.
