Hollywood Babylon?

Redevelopment in Hollywood has led to some tensions. Condo conversions have eaten up office space, retail development adds traffic and parking problems and new residents may not be thrilled by loud partiers leaving the area's nightclubs after midnight. So the Business Journal asks:

Is Hollywood being overdeveloped?

I think it's always a balance. I think that the efforts being made are a positive contribution. I used to live in Beachwood Canyon and I drove through Hollywood every single day, 1980 to 1990. The design-build of Hollywood's redevelopment is primarily a positive contribution for the residents, and it's supportive of the fans who come to see Hollywood and the beautiful Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  landscape. It's kind of the center of all that's here in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

All of the business and nightlife and positive efforts in that area are certainly better than the alternative we saw in the past. It's a draw for people now and people are actually willing to live in that area. So it seems as though they're doing something right. I only notice the traffic when I'm trying to get to the Hollywood Bowl The Hollywood Bowl is a modern amphitheatre at 2301 North Highland Avenue in Hollywood, California, USA, that is used primarily for music performances. The "bowl" in this context is the natural cavity in the earth into which the amphitheater is built, rather than the shape of the , but I'm not sure what the alternatives are other than expanding public transportation opportunities.

I lived right in the heart of Hollywood on Cherokee and Hollywood Boulevard For uses other than the original street, see Hollywood Boulevard (disambiguation).

two years ago. I don't think making Hollywood more of a downtown area is a bad thing--but this is coming from someone from Chicago, so I like high-rises and being in the heart of things. The traffic didn't bother me because everything was so centralized, I think when living in Los Angeles you should choose where you live based on where you spend your nights or where you spend your days and at the time that was where I was. I think if there was a cool, affordable, safe condo I would move there now. I had several burglaries in my apartment there, so that's one of the reasons I had to leave, but I definitely loved it while I was there.

I see it two ways: It seemed like Hollywood was losing its prestige and they were starting to do films down in Orange County. They'd bring some of the films out to Pacific Palms Resort where I am, and I think with the redevelopment they'll try and bring that back into the Hollywood area. So I see it as good for the film industry. I see it as a downside for the traffic, the congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

What's really funny is when people would hear I was from L.A. they would talk about wanting to go to Hollywood Boulevard and see the stars and I would say, "No, no you want to go to Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities.  or somewhere else; you won't see any stars there."

I don't think Hollywood is overdeveloped. I think it has a lot of growth potential and I think it's a broader market than downtown L.A. I think it's experiencing a long-awaited revitalization--longer-awaited than even downtown L.A.'s revitalization. I am constantly, asked, "Is your next project going to be in Hollywood?" That's what the consumer wants. I'd love a project in Hollywood.
