ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2000

The President of the American Bar Association American Bar Association (ABA), voluntary organization of lawyers admitted to the bar of any state. Founded (1878) largely through the efforts of the Connecticut Bar Association, it is devoted to improving the administration of justice, seeking uniformity of law  (ABA), Martha W. Barnett, was honored by her Atlanta partners of Holland & Knight at a reception held at the High Museum of Art yesterday.

More than 400 Holland & Knight attorneys, clients, and friends gathered to celebrate her achievements. Barnett -- who leads the 400,000+ members of the ABA through August 2001 -- was the first female lawyer and partner at Holland & Knight and is the second partner of the firm to hold the office of ABA President. Holland & Knight is the first law firm in America to foster two ABA Presidents.

After the two-hour reception, guests were able to privately tour the art galleries at the High Museum, featuring van Gogh's The Starry Night masterpiece.

Barnett graduated with honors in 1973 from the University of Florida University of Florida is the third-largest university in the United States, with 50,912 students (as of Fall 2006) and has the eighth-largest budget (nearly $1.9 billion per year). UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes.  College of Law. She has been a recipient of the Hillary Clinton Glass Cutter Award and was recently listed in The National Law Journal as one of the "50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America."
