Genetic Clues May Lead to Cause of ALS

The ALS Association The ALS Association is a group devoted to fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (aka "Lou Gehrig's disease"). The group describes itself as being the only not-for-profit health organization devoted to leading the fight against the disease.  along with Packard Center for ALS Research at John Hopkins and the National Institutes of Health are now supporting research into which genes and environmental factors may be involved in causing ALS that does not run in families and is referred to as sporadic sporadic /spo·rad·ic/ (spo-rad´ic) occurring singly; widely scattered; not epidemic or endemic.

The scientific world is a step closer to finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease because of the people who support and participate in the 146 Walks held in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Why is the Walk popular? Why are more corporate sponsors becoming interested in the Walk? How much is the Walk expected to grow? What makes the Walk different than other similar non-profit fundraisers?
