The city's principal economic activity is oil refining.  / Aswat al-Iraq: Holding the National Conference without al-Iraqiya bloc will be useless, a lawmaker from al-Ahrar bloc said on Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath. . Amir al-Kenani criticized statements made by Lawmaker Abbas al-Bayatti, from the National Alliance, who said that the meeting will be held on May 5, with or without al-Iraqiya. "There is a political bureau inside the National Alliance and it is the body responsible for its official policy," he told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, stressing on the importance that the conference should be held with the participation of all blocs.
