Hockey marks Independence Day.

MUSCAT Eoe1/4" The Indian Expats XI lifted the First Independence Day of India 2009 Hockey Cup defeating Oman Veterans XI 6-2 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (Arabic: مجمع السلطان قابوس الرياضي) is a multi-use stadium in Muscat, Oman.  in Bausher. It was an evening of celebration and brotherhood as hockey veterans of Oman in combination with the expatriates, which included even Europeans, gave the gathering a touch of gaiety.

The match was inaugurated by the chief guest and Indian Ambassador Anil Wadhwa and joining him was the guest of honour guest of honour

The exciting day of hockey was organised by the orange clad Team Coorg in association with Bhojpuri Parvivar of Oman, veteran hockey expert SAS (1) (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, www.sas.com) A software company that specializes in data warehousing and decision support software based on the SAS System. Founded in 1976, SAS is one of the world's largest privately held software companies. See SAS System.  Naqvi and Mohammed Shambeh Al Raisi, a popular personality of Oman hockey.

Adding colour was the large gathering of hockey lovers, who enjoyed every moment of the match and also cheered and encouraged the Expat XI to a big victory. Others present were OHA OHA Ontario Hospital Association

Expat XI took an early lead in the fifth minute through a brilliant goal scored by Shakil, but Oman veterans led by Mohammed Shambeh equalized ten minutes later through Abdul Rahim. Khalfan later enhanced the lead for Expat XI with a beautiful goal at stroke of half-time.

 in the second half and in the process allowed the expats add four more goals to the tally. Salah scored a brace, while Mohammed Pasha and Karumbiah scored one goal each, however Khalid Khalfan of Veterans managed to reduce the margin before the final hooter. The trophies and awards were distributed by Sudhir Keshavji.Eoe1/4EoWe are very thankful to OHA and Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex authorities for their cooperation in organising this historic event,Eoe1/4A[yen] said Mohammad Osama Rawat of Bhojpuri Parivar of Oman.

He added to say that this is not the end as Bhojpuri Parivar is all set to organise the second edition of Dhyan Chand Day 2009 in October. Eoe1/4EoChak De India & Nach Baliye fame, former Indian hockey star Mir Ranjan Negi, will be the special guest for the occasion and the event will also include a special quiz for the schools,Eoe1/4A[yen] added Rawat.
