Hitchhiker rockets to No1 in US.


BRITISH movie The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has marched straight to the top of the US box-office ratings.

The sci-fi comedy's weekend takings hit an estimated 21.7million dollars - pounds 11.4million.

That was 50 per cent more than second-placed The Interpreter A high-level programming language translator that translates and runs the program at the same time. It translates one program statement into machine language, executes it, and then proceeds to the next statement.  pulled in at 14.2million dollars.

Hitchhiker's Guide, the long-awaited big-screen adaptation of Douglas Adams' wry trek through a very strange universe, opened in 3,133 cinemas.

Despite some so-so reviews, the Disney studios' production could now be the first summer season blockbuster.
