) - Hitachi Ltd. today announced its release of the industry's first AirLocation II Tag-w, a WiFi active RFID tag An RFID tag that has its own power source. Contrast with passive RFID tag. See RFID and RFID tag.  for wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  position detection and management of people entering and leaving buildings, which also features an emergency message function.

The combined features enable thorough and precise management of people entering a building and information about the position of individuals within. In emergencies, the emergency message function allows users to send a message to the control center, automatically informing disaster relief officials of their whereabouts.

The Air Location II Tag-w, which will be released on October 3 at 21,000 yen, will be displayed at CEATEC CEATEC Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (Technology and Electronics Exhibition, Japan)  Japan 2006 from October 3-7.
