Hitachi to Launch Compact Desktop Analyzer for Laboratory Testing in January.Tokyo, Japan, Oct 28, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Hitachi has developed the Hitachi Clinical Analyzer analyzer /ana·ly·zer/ (an´ah-li?zer) 1. a Nicol prism attached to a polarizing apparatus which extinguishes the ray of light polarized by the polarizer. 2. S4, a compact desktop analyzer for laboratory testing, and will market it from January. The analyzer uses a reagent reagent /re·a·gent/ (re-a´jent) a substance used to produce a chemical reaction so as to detect, measure, produce, etc., other substances. re·a·gent n. cartridge about the size of a 100-yen coin sized, which uses wet chemistries, so it can simultaneously perform up to 40 clinical tests. The analyzer requires only a 10-microliter sample per test, and can deliver results in about 15 minutes. Initially, Hitachi will target small- and mid-sized hospitals and clinics, where the needs for lab tests are growing. In addition, the company plans to introduce a model designed for veterinary hospitals in the future. The Hitachi Clinical Analyzer S40 will retail for 1,995,000 yen ($17,000).
