The Mx integrates leading edge technologies to deliver "best of breed" connectivity, power, multimedia and versatility. Complimented with a mini-dock, users will benefit by having a notebook that is robust, reliable and powerful enough to act as a desktop replacement, and yet light enough to provide full-featured connected computing on the go. "Our customers need to perform at peak levels at all times, no matter where they are," said Mark Yahiro vice president of marketing and business development for Hitachi PC. "Our vision is to deliver the ultimate mobile communications solutions. The Mx, which embodies our endeavors, is an integral part of this strategy." The Mx-Series expands Hitachi's current award winning line of notebooks: the C, M and E-Series. This makes the Mx the fourth product line addition since Hitachi launched their notebooks in May, 1996. Communications The Mx is the first notebook in the industry to integrate both a U.S. Robotics (U.S. Robotics, Inc., Schaumburg, IL, www.usr.com) A modem manufacturer highly regarded for its quality products. The company manufactures its own chipsets (data pumps) and often leads with innovations. Its HST protocol was a high-speed, reliable protocol before V. 33.6 Kbps cellular ready modem along with a 10Base-T Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The Mx operates with either one or two Li Ion batteries. Single battery life is expected to last between three to four hours, depending on use. Power The Mx is powered by Intel's 133 and 150 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. Pentium processors. For an additional boost in raw performance, a 256K L2 cache is built in, and all Mx-Series come standard with a 16MB base RAM, expandable to 80MB.
