Hitachi Introduces 42-Inch Plasma HDTV Monitor for Consumer Applications During CES; Also Ships DLP-based Rear Projection Television to Retailers.

4120HDUS is the Home Electronics Division's first product from Hitachi's investment in the industry's largest and most advanced plasma production facility, FHP Ltd. (Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd.). FHP was established in April 1999 as a joint venture that combined the plasma divisions of Hitachi, Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited. The new CMP4120HDUS will be introduced during the 2001 International CES on January 6 - 8, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hitachi will showcase the HDTV Monitor and its complete product line at the Aladdin Hotel (Grand Ballrooms 2 & 3) during the show.

Hitachi's CMP4120HDUS is a high performance 42-inch 16:9 plasma HDTV Monitor featuring 1024 x 1024 (1,048,576 total pixels) resolution. With an impressive brightness specification of 600cd/m2 (300cd/m2 with front filter), the unit is an ideal choice for critical viewing home theater environments. The CMP4120HDUS has an equally remarkable contrast ratio of 700:1 making for outstanding performance in high ambient light conditions.

The CMP4120HDUS HDTV Monitor is equipped to accommodate a wide range of input types. Compatible video formats include 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i. The CMP4120HDUS can display computer standards including VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions. , SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. The term stems from IBM's XGA display standard introduced in 1990, which extended VGA to 132-column text and interlaced 1,024x768x256 resolution. XGA-2 later added non-interlaced 1,024x768x64K. , SXGA (Super XGA) A screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. SXGA is commonly used on standard monitors, but provides a 1.25:1 aspect ratio, compared to the more common 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. SXGA+ has a 1400x1050 resolution, which is an exact 1.33:1 ratio. Sharing center stage with the plasma HDTV Monitor is Hitachi's UltraVision Digital 55DMX See DMX512. 01W -- an ultra high performance 1280 x 720 DLP(TM)-based 55-inch 16:9 rear projection HDTV Monitor/NTSC receiver. Hitachi's exclusive Light Engine creates an incredibly bright and detailed image that makes it an ideal choice for both home theater and computer display.

Hitachi's 55DMX01W Light Engine incorporates several state of the art innovations that maximize the potential of the Texas Instruments DMD (1) (Digital Micromirror Device) See DLP.

(TM) (Digital MicroMirror Device A Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD is an optical semiconductor that is the core of DLP projection technology, and was invented by Dr. Larry Hornbeck and Dr. William E. Hitachi optical design engineers have developed every aspect of the light path, from the dual curvature shape of the lamp reflector through the exclusive 10-element high contrast wide-angle lens and high-resolution screen. Every component has been engineered to faithfully reproduce accurate images.

For home theater enthusiasts, film reproduction is one of the most critical performance parameters. Hitachi's exclusive D3 (Digital Display Driver) technology automatically detects and corrects for film-based sources originated at 24 frames per second. Among the many advanced features of the D3 circuitry is a line tripler to scale conventional incoming signals to an incredibly detailed, smooth and flicker free 720 line progressive, 60 frames per second picture.
