The Declaration of Independence is coming to a city near you. An original copy of this historic document is now on a trip across the nation--a journey that will last three-and-a-half years.

The Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence on July July: see month.  4, 1776. Two hundred copies of the declaration were made by John Dunlap John Dunlap (1747 – November 27, 1812) was the printer of the first copies of the Declaration of Independence. He was born in Strabane, Northern Ireland in 1747, and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 27, 1812. , a Philadelphia printer.

Only 25 of the original 200 copies still exist. The copy that is touring the nation was found in 1989, in back of a painting that sold for $4 at a flea market See computer flea market.

TV producer Norman Lear Norman Milton Lear (born July 27 1922 in New Haven, Connecticut) is an American television writer and producer who produced such popular sitcoms as All in the Family, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Good Times and  purchased the copy for $8 million. He founded "The Declaration of Independence Road Trip" to serve as a reminder of the freedoms that all Americans enjoy."
