The Division of History and Philosophy of Science The history and philosophy of science (HPS) is an academic discipline that encompasses the philosophy of science and the history of science. Although many scholars in the field are trained primarily as either historians or as philosophers, there are degree-granting departments of  met on February 14, 2003 during the 67th annual meeting of The Mississippi Academy of Science (MAS) held at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi Hattiesburg is a city in Forrest County in Mississippi, a state of the United States of America. It is the principal city of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses Forrest, Lamar and Perry counties. . There were nine presentations addressing interesting aspects of the philosophical and historical facets of science. Three of these presentations focused on the philosophical approach of species. As the Division Chair, I encouraged all the participants to consider publishing in the MAS journal, especially the graduate students since they will benefit from the invaluable experience of publishing in a peer-reviewed journal peer-reviewed journal Refereed journal Academia A professional journal that only publishes articles subjected to a rigorous peer validity review process.
